Where I quite often go hiking there are a bunch of wild horses that roam freely about. This particular horse belongs to a small herd of 7 horses (6 adults and one pony born this past spring 2009). There is at least one more herd of six horses that I’ve seen and maybe one more in the area. THere could even be lots more, but I’ve only ever seen the two distinct herds. Once I saw a bunch of horses a ways further back than I saw either of the two hers I’m familiar with, but it was through some thick brush and I couldn’t tell if they were one of my two herds.
